Abbreviated Theatre Review: “The Wizard of Oz” at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am experiencing some serious writer’s block, probably due to various stressful situations in my non-blogging life. Maybe, like Dorothy, I will wake up and find it was all a dream.
In the meantime, this is the best I can do:
I went to the opening night of the 2009 production of “The Wizard of Oz” directed by Brent E. Marty at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre a couple weekends ago. Except for the over-use of the smoke machine, every aspect of this show is magical. It is outstanding in its creativity and yet loving in its payment of homage to the Judy Garland movie. Even the children are good actor-singer-dancers, fully engaged in playing their Munchkin roles.
“The Wizard of Oz” runs through Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre. The performance on Saturday, December 26, 2009, will be signed for the hearing impaired. The performance on Friday, January 1, 2010, will be an audience sing-a-long event. To make a reservation, you may order tickets online or call the Box Office at 317-923-4597.
