Yesterday I learned of a great deal for parents looking to take their family to a professional theatre production this holiday season: Actors Theatre of Indiana has a new program called “Art-4-Art” that offers kids the chance to earn free tickets to see ATI’s popular musical, “A Year with Frog and Toad,” by Robert and Willie Reale, by coloring.
That’s right: kids get in free if they color a special page from ATI’s website and bring it to the theatre (the Pike Performing Arts Center.) I had to read the press release twice, myself, to believe it.
Here is a direct quote from the press release that Don Farrell, Producing Artistic Director of ATI, sent me:
“Actors Theatre of Indiana, the future resident professional theatre company of Carmel’s City Center, is reaching out to Indy Moms and Dads by offering a special gift to help ease the cost of a fun night out with the family. During these difficult economic times with so many twists and turns, Actors Theatre of Indiana invites children 12 and under to participate in its “Art-4-Art” exchange program!
Open to children ages 12 and under “Art-4-Art” offers children, with the help of their parents, to go to ATI’s website at http://www.actorstheatreofindiana.org/, download and color a picture of Frog and Toad. Then, when they bring their finished art with them to the theatre, they will receive a FREE CHILD’S TICKET to any performance of “A Year With Frog & Toad” which runs December 12-21st! Children’s art in exchange for ATI’s theatre art!
Additionally, each finished picture received from a child will be entered into an ATI Contest to win a very special Frog & Toad basket full of goodies of Frog and Toad books, original Broadway Cast recording ATI cast signed poster, Frog & Toad plush dolls, and more!!!”
I had to ask for help finding the coloring picture on the website, though. You have to click on “Current Season” and then scroll down to find the “Frog & Toad’s Art-4-Art” button to get to the coloring page. Or you could click to it directly, here.
I assume that parents are supposed to buy their own tickets and enjoy the show with their kids.
I have not seen this Tony-nominated show yet, myself, but ATI has offered productions of it in previous years and the three ATI shows that I have seen were all top quality. Friends of all ages who saw “Frog and Toad” last year or the year before have raved to me about it. It intrigues me because I love the original Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel. They manage to include heart-warming, engaging stories about friendship using a vocabulary that is appropriate for beginning readers.
Here is some more info from the press release:
